## The visit

Telehealth means care from a distance; you and the clinician are not in the same room.

An in-person first visit was not required by federal law before semaglutide prescribing, as of September 2026.

An assessment is the clinician's review of your health before deciding on care.

A medical board is the state group that gives doctors permission to practise and keeps records of action taken over their conduct.

May 2026 guidance from the state boards' national group says a medicine menu cannot take the place of a health review.

This is guidance for state boards. Each state's rules set the requirements there.

The clinician needs enough health information to decide on care. The guidance also calls for arranging any needed tests or an examination.
